3 gadgets with the same technology. Explained!

Hey friends, Happy Wednesday!

Let’s look at how 3 different gadgets work using the same principle this week. I aim to write my newsletter issues in a way one can follow them while traveling on a bus, having a coffee, waiting for your food, etc. Let's jump in!

The 3 Gadgets & technologies!

Let's take the scenario where you’re using a restroom.

  1. You use a restroom and the flush works automatically once you move away from it.

  2. Then, you wash your hands just by bringing them under the tap without touching it.

  3. Finally, the dispenser sends out tissue when you bring your hands close to a sensor.

How does all this work? Okay now guess what! All these 3 use the same principle to make this possible. Now let’s see how they work.

How do all these work?

Active Infrared sensor technology makes this possible.

Setup:

Active infrared sensors consist of an emitter and a receiver. The emitter emits invisible infrared light in the form of LEDs. The receiver is positioned and designed to pick up the infrared light that bounces back from objects within its detection range.

Activation:

When an object moves within the detection zone of the active infrared sensor, it reflects some of the emitted infrared light back to the receiver, thus a change in the received signal is detected. This change causes all the three functionalities we discusses in the previous section to work as intended.

Thank you for reading!

Have a nice rest of the week, and take care!
Until next Wednesday,
Chendur
